If the problem is that traffic is declining, the way to reverse it for real would be the opposite of what they're doing. Not by making it easier to search for established old-timer Power Sellers who already know about it. Give listing discounts and increased visibility to the newest New Sellers. I personally like the way they've been doing it for the past god-knows-how-long. List the auctions expiring quickest at the top of the list, so if there's anything there you want you have a chance to grab it quickly before it goes away. That way, eventually everyone will have had their chance to at the top of the list.

Or perhaps have some of the power sellers at the very top, maybe 4 or 5 of them, and then in a section below that have some of the newer sellers. Or do that in reverse; have a small section on each search page for new sellers. That way they can have their cake and eat it too; the power sellers get their exposure, and so do the newbies.

Yes. I think the reverse -- putting the newest sellers right on top, would encourage new members and get them through their startup faster. Which puts money in their pocket to spend that they'll probably dump right there on someone else's auction ( ... )
