Oh yeah, I do need to get those twigs coming from behind her head, they aren't part of her hair and aren't done either. They'll look different next time I post, promise. I worked more on her than the background there.

Thank you! Which part of it gives you trouble? I'm serious, I'm not kidding. I've been doing beaucoup articles all intended to help people draw like this and if it's the landscape or the little face or (and this was the toughest part for me) doing a person with glasses, I can probably help ( ... )

I really love the deep blue of the ocean as it meets the horizon. Very beautiful! It's one of those pictures, too, where it's easy to imagine that I can smell the slightly chilly salty air.

Thank you! That was hard to figure out and easy to do once I did -- the underpainting was shaded like that but the photo reference was so clear I could see little teeny waves all the way to the horizon. So I just sketched them loosely with a sharp pointed pencil one shade darker than the underpainting and then got more elaborate as I got toward shore and saw the lighter shallower areas. It's a bit more painterly than I intended and not as burnished-photorealistic but it started working and I couldn't stop.

I wished I could be there from the moment I first saw the reference. She gave me two, and I'm doing another one later on just to hang and wish I was there...

I LOVE it! I am definite that she will love it, also! She's due back in Australia soon (from London, England) and this is just an amazing 'welcome home' present for her. Thank you so much for working on it! :)

Yayy! I was waiting with bated breath to see whether you liked it, since I did something a bit different with the tree and this one didn't come out quite as photorealistic. Mostly because I did not do that tangled tree to the photo exactly. I like it better like this though, because it reminds me of some Asian art and also of that hang glider painting that I saw in your photos way back.
