Doctor, my eyes

Well, it seems that it's the hip thing to do recently. Several of the people whose journals I read have recently taken trips to the eye doctor. Since it had been over 2.5 years since my last eye exam, and I needed to get the benefits of paying for my vision insurance, which ends in September, I visited the doctors who my previous eye doctor sold ( Read more... )

Dude: Zenni Optical.

I haven't used them yet, but they come recommended from a friend of mine. Once I get my new Rx, I plan to order a pair of "night driving" glasses - a little yellow tint to take the edge off those damned HID headlights, and most importantly - my astigmatism correction for my left eye, which can't be fixed with contacts. I'd wear these WITH my contacts, you see....

Wow. Thanks for that link. Although I think putting computer lenses in my existing frames will be cheaper than this service, it's definitely something to think about for the future.

At these prices, I could even go wild and order all sorts of styles!

I had hateful rectangular frames until a couple months ago.  All my optometrist had were rectangular frames, so I did some online research and found eyewear designer Oliver Peoples. They have an exclusive retailer here in Austin, so I went there and bought PERFECTLY ROUND frames.  They were not cheap by any stretch of the imagination, and I have no vision insurance, but I did get a significant insurance check after I filed all my claims for my psychotherapy, and was able to pay the $350 from the therapy check.  All I really had to pay for, then, were the lenses.

That's what I despise about these Progressives! The fucking sweet spot is all of 3/8" across!!!!!

I have a pair of what i call my "sculpting" glasses...set for 10" to 2' in front of me-----EVERYTHING else is a Monet!

You'll find an odd sensation of being able to actually move your eyes around in their socketsd, instead of having to turn your head! Don't be surprised if you get some muscle strain at first!

I'm with you on the frames thing. I hate the teeny lenses that are so popular right now - can any one say "FIELD OF VISION"??!

Maybe they're OK for someone with a very light prescription - but for someone who needs strong correction, they suck. I can't have a style that sits in close to my eyes, because I have really long eyelashes (yes, the hairy-beast thing extends even to there) and the sensation of them hitting the near side of the lens bugs the hell out of me.
