So a while back, I read The Case of the Missing Servant: From the Files of Vish Puri, Most Private Investigator by Tarquin Hall and loved it to bits and pieces.

Last weekend, I finally found the second book, The Case of the Man Who Died Laughing: From the Files of Vish Puri, Most Private Investigator, in trade and made noises that only dogs could ( Read more... )

Oh lord, these sound amazing. I need to buy these promptly! And you should totally cast them. ♥

PS:

His ship was no new beauty, but it was sturdy, and loyal, and could take a good, solid beating. It'd hosted fights, storms, and celebrations.

Idris was particularly fond of the figurehead: a mermaid with sunbleached skin, verdigris hair, and a sublime grin.

A lovingly crafted bosom, as well.

He didn't believe in mermaids, he didn't care what the stories said, but if they did exist, he liked to believe that they were like the Oshosi's mermaid guide: beautiful and mysterious, a real sight to see. Something you could write your mother about.

Just before she pulled you to your gruesome death, of course.

YOU NEED TO READ THESE. I know that you will love them, and you will especially love Mummy. She is the best secondary character ever. And oh, God, Facecream is amazing and mysterious and you will fall in love with her, I guarantee it!

In terms of personality, I actually think Mummy is more like Precious, but overall, I would say the series are comparable. And Vish is so wonderfully pompous that I honestly half-expected him to adjust his moustache a la Poirot.

It's all just delightful. :D
