Avon? Where on earth is that?

Here's a geography lesson for you all.

When I was born, I was born in a county called Avon.

Avon itself was a bit of an unwieldly mash of places, and a lot of people here would say they were from 'Somerset' or 'Bristol'. Or maybe even the much looser term 'the Westcountry'.

In the 90s, everything changed. There was local government reform and in 1996 ( Read more... )

Yeah, forms still reckon that Bristol is in Avon too. When I get to fill in my address myself, I do like putting "City: Bristol, County: Bristol". Makes me feel very important ;-)

We have a lot of forms insisting that we must live in both a city and a county and then don't offer 'Greater London' as an option, nor any of the boroughs. Oh 'other'.

I'm looking forward to the joy of trying to get everywhere to accept a BFPO address when I'm overseas.

I have to admit something....

I only mentioned London to get you to reply ;-)

Fancied seeing a comment from you on my blog - it's been a while! (my fault)

There, that's my wicked ploy uncovered.

Incidentally, in Bristol you have to do what itcomesinpints says. Bristol Bristol

:P you know I can't resist rising to the bait when you badmouth London.

I usually go with Plaistow, London because I think London, London looks enormously stupid.

What are you still doing up?!

Not quite:

----------------

Residents of Bath & North East Somerset are entitled to a price reduction on spa sessions. We require proof of residency and recommend the 'Residents Discovery Card' available free of charge from Bath & North East Somerset Council's Heritage Services at the Roman Baths. Please note that resident and disabled discounts do not apply to treatments, vouchers, spa packages or offers.
2-hour spa session £18.00
4-hour spa session £26.00
Full Day spa session £42.00

----------------

Basically, no discounts on treatments, packages, existing offers etc.

Just a discount for spa sessions, which works out at the fabulous cost of:

£4 off a two hour session
£6 off a four hour session
£10 off a full day session

Yippee! ;-)

Have you been watching Psychoville?
One of the characters lives in Bristol and it always comes up with 'Bristol, Avon' whenever it goes to show this character..

I never know whether to laugh or to yell..

Maybe I should email the BBC about it? Stop them looking like fools?
