On long-distance running, and the detesting of

    Upon asking several people, it seems I have a unique experience when running long-distance; way before my body gets tired, my esophagus hurts like hell. I don't remember if I've been tested for asthma, but I've never had an asthma attack (unless I have had one and still kept running, more than 100 times in my life). Actually, that doesn't sound that unusual; my throat hurts when I run, too, especially when it's cold out. (Unless you actually were talking about your esophagus (what food goes down)and not just your trachea (what air goes down), as I assumed. Your esophagus hurting would be weird.)

It's possible you have exercise-induced asthma, which basically means it only happens when you work your lungs too hard.

Tried it. Tried breath control too. The only semblance of relief seems to come from non-stop practice, and that only prolongs the amount of time it takes. I suppose if I was really, really determined to run long-distances, I could, but I got better things to do, like master stick-swinging.

I get something similar too.

Have found that regulating breathing through nose helps. Breathing through mouth causes ragged breathing and the sensation of having a bulldozer run into my side.

I imagine the smoking doesn't help a whole lot though.
