Strange Moments in Television

So, there are a few actresses out there who I think must be absolutely stunning face to face, but in a way that just does not translate that way for me when they're on television. I can always spot them because the camera and writing all act like she's some sort of 50's film star and that it would just be impossible not to fall in love with this

I just saw Mary McCormack in 1408 the other night, and she seemed to be at a perfectly reasonable level of teh hawt.

I've caught every episode of the show. I've found it to be a mixed bag, but the wierd personality quirks of the main character have kept me watching for the time being. I don't think that one sentiment was a fluke.
One statement that she made that I could truly identify with was when she was looking at a baby and then says to the parents, "So what is it with babies? I don't get 'em."
