The trees swayed in wind that seemed to exist only between them, their branches curled and crooked like fingers aching to catch and scratch at anyone who'd dare venture into them. A mist obscured the undergrowth and roots and lent a certain amount of ambiance to the scene.
There didn't seem to be any life in the forest; all of the trees were dry and gray and no creatures darted between them or within them. Instead, shadows passed throughout the woods.

"I hope that wasn't important." Dan said, glancing over at the boy; he tried to keep most of his attention forward, because his night vision wasn't THAT great and he wished he had his goggles, at least.
A branch caught him in the face and he muttered a curse under his breath.

Toya points where the wind blew the card. "I did, and I can sense it for now. Magic like that should not be let loose upon the world. Magic like this, "he offers, showing The Fly, "will help me catch it. Are you coming?"
Re: The Haunted Woodsd_dreibergOctober 26 2009, 03:54:59 UTC
"Yeah, okay..." Dan nodded; he kept to Toya's side for the time being. Who knew what was waiting for them - ahead or behind - so he had to try and keep alert.
He didn't like not knowing who his assailant was, however. And the way Toya talked about -magic- like it was something that could be depended on made him worry. So he'd make sure the kid got out of here all right, then go his own way.

Toya might need to apologize to Dan later, but the big thing on his mind was an escaped Star Card. More importantly, he'd gotten a look at the front of the card and he'd never seen it before.
The Japanese youth snaped The Fly into the air with a spin and tapped it with the Star Staff, calling out "Fly!" White light raced from teh card in all directions, though instead of forming the expected angel wings on his back, it formed dragon's wings. Toya gave this little thought, for the wings were still shimmering white.
"Hang on tight," he said because it seemed right, though the directive applied more to him as he was the one moving to pick Dan up and not the other way around.

It is very likely that Toya hear's Dan's protests but is choosing to ignore them. He lifted Dan up into the sky and then swooped towards the ground to permit fast travel without the risk of tree branches and such. The manuver also let Dan ride more like he were on a hang glider than being carried around by a bird of prey.

"This is really uncomfortable, I'll have you know... for both of us, I imagine." Dan added the last bit under his breath; he dangled there like a captured lunch. If he struggled, Toya might drop him, and then he'd be worse off.

Toya's discomfort was being overwhelmed by his concern about the card. As he raced towards a fork in the path, he banked left without hesitation. After a good five minutes of flying, he lifted and set Dan and himself down carefully, landing on his feet.
The wings behind him flared into light and convalesced back into a card depicting a swan-like creature. As he put the card away he spoke, "Sorry, I couldn't let it get too far away."

Something lurks in the darkness of the woods only a few feet from where the card landed. It makes almost no sound, though a presence might be felt. Or what seems like a presence. If it was even felt at all.

Dan's stomach lurched as they moved forward; he frowned deeply and glanced around. "That was a stupid move, Toya. Anything looking for us in here now knows just where to find us."
Re: The Haunted Woodstoya_kinomotoOctober 31 2009, 11:51:28 UTC
"I suspect,' began Toya, whose language was sending a completely different message, "that anything out here could find us any time it wanted. I'd still rather face them than the effects of an unknown card loose on its own."
Toya had nodded agreement while speaking, then gestured to his eyes and ears before pointing sharply into dark of the trees at a spot a few feet from the card. Then he'd carefully removed two cards from their storage place and showed them to Daniel: The Sword and The Shield.

What they were from was anyone's guess.

"It has the potential to be very important. I need to get it back."
He was returning the book to its usual hiding spot, but there was still a card in his hand and it had a swan of sorts on it.

"I'd put that away before you lose it, too."
