Bike Stolen

Last night, someone swiped my bike. In all honesty, I really didn't do enough to protect it, so I'm not surprised. Because the bike rack is crowded, I hitch up to a fence near the parking garage's entrance/exit. I also had taken to using a cable lock instead of a u-bolt lock because I was often having a hard time finding a place to lock my bike ( Read more... )

Augh, I'm so sorry you've had all this stuff happen to you at once! Hope your claim processes faster than expected.

The crappy thing about this is that, even if the claim processes tomorrow, I'll likely be without my bike for 2 weeks. That might be easier to handle if not for the fact that I live on my bike.

I still have nancyblue's to ride, but the wider tires and high wind profile are not going to make my commute very pleasant.

On the one hand, having your bike stolen does suck, but on the other hand, bikes can be replaced, at least. I'm sorry, for what it's worth.

They can be replaced, yes. What bothers me, though, is that it's also a loss of certain joys in my life until the problem is fixed. It means having to get less effective and enjoyable exercise. It also means more inconvenient commutes. Because of my reliance on my bike, this actually disrupts a lot of things, and because bikes aren't considered important pieces of property (compared to, say, cars), I'm essentially on my own while insurance processes the claim.

Hell...the records desk that will give me a copy of my police report is open only half a day.

At least you have the back-up transportation. The "bad rolls of the dice" have been happening to us here as well. I hope a respite comes for you soon. As Sir Winston said, "When you're going thru Hell, keep going..."
