Date: 8 September 1999 Characters: Draco Malfoy, Theodore Nott Location: Diagon Alley Status: Public Summary: Draco runs into another Slytherin that he hasn't seen very often. Completion: Incomplete
Theo actually rather liked rain - he found it soothing and pleasant to listen to - and it was the rain that had drawn him out and into Diagon Alley. He didn't actually have anything to do there, though, and spending money senselessly wasn't to his taste, so instead he brought a book and settled in at the Leaky Cauldron. A quiet Sunday afternoon with a book and tea - perfect.
It was right about the time that he realised that his tea had run out that he noticed the entrance of a familiar, if wet, blonde.
He debated for a few seconds, recalled his recent decision to be less reclusive, and lifted his hand in a brief wave to get Draco's attention.
It really couldn't hurt to catch up with another old housemate.
Draco wasn't sure which was more surprising, that Theo was in the Leaky Cauldron, a few mere feet away from the Muggle World, or that he waved. This week was just getting strange. Either way, he head toward the table, determined not to be rude, wearing an expression that was meant to be distrust but instead just made him look windworn.
Theodore was reading...how quaint. Still...at least he had the good sense to be drinking tea rather than the preferred brew of Sunday afternoon visitors. And he supposed it was quiet in here. He checked the chair for traps before sitting down.
"Nott," he said, "I won't pretend not to be suspicious about your sudden friendliness. Decided to throw away the mantle of superiority you've felt for me since first year?"
Theo refused to be baited, and smiled slightly instead. "Hello to you, too, Malfoy, it's a delight as ever."
He set the book down and laced his long fingers together on top of it. "To be perfectly honest, whether you'll take me at my word or not, I've recently come to the conclusion that perhaps it is not in my best interests to disregard other people's continued existence. So I decided to say hello."
He blinked slowly and smiled again. "Would you like some tea? I was just going to order more."
"Mm...no, I would probably believe it," he said, "Everyone is electing to change for one reason or another." He glanced toward the cover of Theodore's book, then toward his face. "Still, change or not, there are very few people who would speak to me, even if it meant making a point."
"I would very much like some tea," he said, carefully. "What are you reading?"
