Neville was a little off that morning, still thinking about what Pansy said about them just 'going for it' and having sex. He'd been thinking so much about it that he'd been inattentive during his lesson and Master Gurdin had nearly taken his head off. Not that Neville didn't deserve it. He knew his Herbology master required focus, yet he'd failed to deliver ( ... )

Rita was just nursing her glass and watching the people in the pub. She wasn't thinking about work or the book, which was quite nice, for a change. She felt better already.

When someone sat down close by her she turned, and was surprised to see Neville Longbottom. By the look of it, he was fairly surprised too, but he didn't run away.

"Evening, Mr Longbottom."

Well, she'd been hoping for someone to talk to, hadn't she? He wasn't exactly who'd she'd have picked, but perhaps he'd be surprising.

"I've been well, thank you. How have you been, ma'am?" Tom set his pint in front of him and Neville thanked him, putting up the coins right away since he didn't know how long he'd be staying.

He always felt awkward in situations like this where he had no idea what to say. Maybe he should pay better attention to Pansy. She was good at small talk. Of course she wasn't as uncomfortable in unfamiliar surroundings as he was either.

"Oh," Rita shrugged, "A bit overworked, but otherwise fine."

This was... odd. They'd spoken, of course - gotten on amicably enough during the interview - but that had been business, and this... wasn't.

Merlin, she hadn't been locked away so long that she'd forgotten how to talk to people, though, had she?

"What have you been doing since Hogwarts? Have you managed to find a job you enjoy?"
