The plan to schedule cooking lessons tonight hadn't worked out. Mostly because Wayne remembered at the last minute that he had to go home for a birthday dinner, and he couldn't really cancel for something that hadn't even been planned yet. Instead, he had decided to do a class next Sunday, and he'd even written a large note and put it on his fridge so he'd remember to make the bloody flyer ( ... )

Anthony gave a smile. "I'm alright," he said, "Just trying to figure out what I need." He picked up a saucepan and studied it for a moment. "I tried making rice the other day but my pot's crap and I need something good. It wasn't exactly the best rice I've ever had. And I told you about the lamb thing with the heavy-bottomed pan."

Wayne was holding a large, flat pan. "What's that one for?" Anthony asked.

"Oh, right. The lamb." He nodded as he remembered that. "For rice, you might try that one." He pointed to a pan that he figured would be good for rice and other things.

"This is for pizza. Am finally getting around to scheduling another cooking class, so I wanted to price the pans and see about working that into the cost of supplies for the class," he explained.

Anthony picked up the pan that Wayne had indicated, hefting it in his hand. It wasn't too heavy, like the cast iron one had been, and it had a nicely-fitting lid. He checked the price. It was maybe a bit more that he'd wanted to spend on a single item, but it was probably worth it. "This looks like a good one," he said. As if he knew.

"Oh--of course it is." Anthony smiled. "I heard about your first cooking class, but I didn't make it." He didn't mention the level of vague animosity that had been present between them at that time. He thought he might like to go to a class now, though. "When's the pizza class going to be?

He snorted. "Dunno about that, mate. Never been much for priorities. Figure whatever happens, happens. Keep whinging about never seeing my friends, but then I choose to work on a day off, so, ya know, all my own fault." He grinned. "Maybe I just like whinging?"

They entered the shop, and he scanned it before he led Anthony to an area with pots. "Should be able to find some good choices here."

"Yeah, Lisa's party. Sent her a note telling her I'd have to work. Dunno if Rosie would let me off on a Saturday, 'specially not so I can lie around being lazy or swimming all afternoon." He picked up a pot and examined it. "You planning on going, then? This one might be good for you."

"Maybe that's a good way to be," said Anthony, "The 'whatever happens, happens' thing, I mean. Not the whinging." He laughed.

"Wow, definitely," said Anthony. He picked up one similar to the pot Wayne had suggested in Hogsmeade, did some mental math, and determined that yes, the Muggle prices were far more reasonable.

He shrugged. "You don't know if you don't ask," he said. He glanced at the pot Wayne was examining. "I'm going, yes. Lisa's one of my best mates. I'm not much for swimming, but it should be a good party." He took the pot from Wayne, getting the feel of it in his hand. "This one's nice," he said.

"Maybe so. Never really been any other way, so I figure it works for me." He shook his head. "Yeah, the whinging isn't attractive. El's beat me over the head with one of these pots if she heard me. Good thing she isn't around."

"True. I dunno. I'll see how the week goes and what kind of mood she's in," he decided. "Like swimming pretty well, though I haven't really done much of it lately."

He nodded. "Yeah, it is. Good quality, good price. Could be good for rice as well as other things. Think it's a possibility, at least."

Anthony had to chuckle at the mental image of Eloise beating Wayne over the head with a saucepot. "She keeps you in line, then?"

He nodded. "Then maybe I'll see you at the party. Lisa's beach looks pretty nice."

"I did a bit of research," he said, "Mainly to see what makes a good pot. This one seems to fit the criteria." If he saw something just as nice for less, he'd change his mind, but he thought this one was probably his best bet. "After I stock up on pots and pans, it's onto knives, eventually," he said, "Though from what I've read it seems you really only need one good one unless you're doing fancy stuff."
