Date: August 24th, 1999 | after 8pm Characters: Eloise Midgen, Anthony Goldstein Location: Anthony's flat, Muggle Cinema in London Status: Private Summary: Eloise and Anthony take in a film. Completion: complete ( with Anthony )
What did a person wear to the cinema? Having never been, Anthony hadn't the faintest idea if it were a casual or a mmore formal affair. Was it like going to a play? Anthony's mum had taken him to the theatre a few times when he was a boy. He'd always had to wear a jacket and tie. He made a face at the notion. Jeans and a casual shirt would have to do, and El could steer him in the proper direction when she arrived if he'd guessed wrong.
He was just buttoning up his shirt when the knock came on the door. He grinned and opened it. "Glad to see you showed instead of deciding to break my heart for the second time this week," he teased.
Eloise stuck out her tongue at him. "Oh shut it, you. I'm sure your adoring legions were thankful. Now you have to drum up the balls to ask someone you want to take as a date date." She stepped inside his flat and looked over his choice of clothes. "Looking good, Goldstein."
"So, I take it you still haven't been to the cinema ever? I get to be your first time?" She couldn't stop the laugh then, realizing how horribly ironic that was. "Sorry. I'm a little..." she waved her hand in a circular motion next to her ear, "crazy today."
Anthony felt his cheeks go a tiny bit pink at El's causal mention of getting himself a date, but he'd resolved that they weren't going to be weird about this whole thing after his confession. So he smirked at her instead. "I'll let you know when I do, and you can pick out my outfit." He gestured at what he was wearing. "Speaking of. This is okay for the cinema?"
He laughed and shook his head. "Yeah, you're my first. I think I'm spotting a trend in our relationship." He felt his cheeks go even pinker and went to fetch his shoes.
"Nah, you seem to have that end of things all worked out." She smiled at him apologetically, hoping he knew she hadn't meant to hurt his feelings with turning him down or teasing him about a date.
"That's perfect."
She giggled and hoped that meant he hadn't been offended. "Hmm. I think you're right. Does that mean I get to reserve your other firsts, too? Like, I don't know, the first friend to take you to the hospital, or the first friend to help you move..." she trailed off and shrugged. "I call dibs."
He laughed. "You could definitely put it that way." He looked over and saw a little smile on her face and felt his own mouth start to twist into a smile. "I don't know what you're imagining, but I'm going to have to insist you stop it at once."
"Just a friend," he said, "He's got a b--he's got someone. Sort of. Regardless, we're just friends now."
She laughed, covering her mouth as he called her out. "Okay, train of thought abandoned."
Eloise wasn't sure Anthony was okay with this bloke having a boyfriend, but she wasn't going to press him on that. "Well, I suppose this is the part where we look at blokes together, then?" Eloise scrunched her nose. "Maybe not. You don't strike me as the 'dishing about boys' type. OF course, I'm not that type either."
"Oh--" Anthony pushed his pastry away and dropped his head onto the table. "I am definitely not ready for that," he said, his words slightly muffled by the tabletop. He picked his head back up and looked at El. "Maybe this is the part where we finish our coffees and go to the cinema instead."
Eloise burst out in giggles and had to wipe the tears from her face. "I think you're right. Come on Mr. Goldstein, let's pop your cinema cherry." Eloise stood and winked at Anthony. His friendship was becoming something she enjoyed above many other things in her life, and she intended to keep it.
