Date: Saturday, August 17, 1999 Characters: Andromeda Tonks, Roger Davies, Teddy Lupin Location: Andy's house Status: Private Summary: Roger comes over for dinner Completion: Incomplete
Roger Apparated to Andy's door, checking his watch; he was just about on time. He'd considered just Flooing in, but it had somehow seemed improper to waltz into her place when this was a date, and only the second one. No; best to knock on her door. Especially given the old-fashioned way that she'd been raised.
He'd have to get used to this. Even though there'd been his share of girls, he didn't exactly date much. Not that it was hard, really; Andy made it pretty easy.
Of course, if he stood on her doorstep messing around and making himself late, that maybe wouldn't be a good start. He knocked on the door.
"Sie-sie!" Teddy said happily when there was a knock on the door. He had noticed her smile and attention when he said the word, so he had been repeating it. A lot. She couldn't really mind because he was too adorable, and she was proud of him for saying his first word. Unfortunately, she also had a suspicion that he might be very talkative, just like his mother.
"Yes, it's someone outside," she told him as she stood up. He crawled after her to the door, so she picked him up before she opened it. The last thing she needed was for him to dart out into the rain at some rapid toddler crawling speed.
When she opened the door, she smiled and resisted the urge to fuss with her hair. "Hello, Roger. Please, come inside."
"Fine," she said. "I thought I'd better get Speedy before he crawled outside. He's in one of those moods today."
"Sie-sie!" Teddy grinned happily and reached for the door.
She couldn't help smiling. "He also seems to have decided to start talking. Well, saying one word. Repeatedly. Just to warn you, you might hear that more times than you can count if the last half hour is any indication." She stepped side so Roger could come in. "How are you?"
"Very good. Proper decorum is important." She took another drink of her wine before she picked up a fork and began to feed Teddy, who had managed to get more food on his face than in his mouth. He'd definitely need a bath before she put him down for bed.
"Slow is better when you work in the Auror department," she agreed. "And don't worry about it. It won't last. Unfortunately, crime is part of a functioning society. I doubt it even matters how small a community is because there would likely be crime of one form or another."
"How are your parents?" she asked, wondering if he had told them that he was dating someone older than they are. It was only a second date, so she doubted it. That wasn't something he'd likely tell them unless there were many dates and possibly not even then.
"You're right," he said. "I'm not expecting this lull to last very long. I'm sure it'll be back into the field soon enough. Fortunately, I enjoy it more than catching up on paperwork." He took a sip of his wine.
Andy asked him about his parents, and he smiled. "They're fine," he said. "At least, they sound great in their letters. I really need to drop in for a visit soon, though."
"I usually am," she said with a slight smirk. "You should be used to that by now." She took a bite of her pasta and listened. "I can understand that. Being at a desk isn't the same as working a case."
She nodded. "You should find time to visit them. I remember how much I wanted Dora to visit when she went off into the world, and I never seemed to see her enough. I'm sure your parents feel the same way."
Roger glanced at Teddy to make sure he was still making red sauce shapes on his tray -- which he was -- then looked at Andy. "You're lucky you're cute when you're smug."
He nodded. "Right again. I think next weekend I'll head down, so mum can remark on how thin I am."

"Good to see you, mate," he grinned at Teddy, who seemed to be getting bigger. "Been a while. Was that you I heard chattering from outside?"
