Draco wasn't inside - he was already out in the gardens organising the house elves into preparing a nice spread of tea and cake under the oak tree. They might have been useful, but they were less than artistic when it came to laying things in place, and the charm to keep the bugs off the mat and out of the sugar bowl were beyond their comprehension. He snapped once more at them, and then another elf appeared from the house to tell him that there was a lady at the door, and should he answer it.
The answer was of course no, Draco hurried across to meet Pansy, climbing up the steps behind her. "There you are," he said. "Do you want to leave anything here, before we take our walk?"
Pansy was starting to get worried that she had the day wrong when she heard someone behind her. "Merlin, Draco. You scared me."
She shook her head, pointing to the bag that was strapped across her shoulder. "I should be fine with just this." She smiled and started down the steps. "How are you?"
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you." He touched his hand to her elbow, then stepped away, trotting down the steps. "I'm very well, thank you. I'm afraid I'm a little ahead of you in enjoying the garden this morning, but I have been reading too, so it's not entirely time wasted."
He took a quick look around as though deciding which way to go, but he already had the course plotted in his mind, and there really was no need.
"And you, Pansy, look very well. You are, I hope?"
"Sounds like a lovely way to start the day," she offered, following him down the steps and stopping when he did.
"Of course," she said casually. "It's summer, finally warm and sunny, I can't complain much. Well," she added, grinning, "I'm sure I can find something to complain about, but that's no fun, really."
