Lisa wasn't sure when Terry had dropped off the note, but she found it just after dawn when she'd headed out for her morning run. She'd tucked it into her pocket, intending to save it for when she got home, and then took off running down South Vinewood. Rather than taking her usual route, though, she ended up in Phoenix Park. Maybe it was near where they'd been that night, though she couldn't quite remember exactly where they'd been sitting. Still, she sank to her knees in the damp grass and pulled out the letter, reading through the line several times before she let it fall to the ground.

Did she want to talk to him? Yes. Was she ready to talk to him? Probably not. But if she was honest with herself, she wasn't sure she'd ever be ready to have the conversation she knew was coming. Their relationship was over, had been for nearly three weeks now, but she dreaded to finality that this "talk" would probably bring. How could she sit there and listen to the things he had to say--again--and reconcile them with what she was feeling? She ( ... )

Terry arrived at work feeling more than a little groggy. After shoving the note under Lisa's door, he'd gone back to his own room and poured a big glass of Ogden's. He'd limited himself to just the one glass, which showed more restraint than usual the past few weeks; it had been just enough to help him get to sleep by 1 a.m. Apparently the Ogden's worked well as a sleeping aid; he didn't wake up until almost half-seven, so by the time he showered and grabbed a bagel to take to work, it was close to 8 o'clock ( ... )
