Kingsley had been relying on reports and second-hand accounts for his news of the new Auror trainees, and while the information had been good, it wasn't the same as seeing things himself. He'd reached a good stopping point for lunch, amazing even himself, and decided this would be the perfect day to swing by his old office. He knew that his unannounced presence in various department was sometimes intimidating, but with the the new recruits likely taking their lunch breaks as well, perhaps he wouldn't throw the training schedule off too much by stopping by.
Plus it was always nice to keep people on their toes, especially his old Auror mates.
It was a little odd being back there, Kingsley couldn't help thinking as he stepped into the department. The sights were both familiar and strange; had it really been so long since he'd spent many of his waking hours hunched over one of the worn desks pouring over maps and eyewitness reports and photographs? A familiar bald head appeared from around a corner, and he couldn't help but grin. At least some things hadn't changed.
"Auror Spencer," he said, keeping his voice polite and relatively formal, though his eyes were twinkling. A quick glance around revealed only a few of the older Aurors, some of whom he'd trained himself, but no new recruits. "It's been awhile, old friend. How's Robards treating you these days?"
