Completion: Complete

Neville thought about his parents a lot, both together and separately. He thought about how things might have been different if he'd grown up with them instead of Gran. He thought about what it would be like to have a dad he could go to for advice. He thought about what it would be like to have a mum who could explain why girls did some of the things they did. What Neville thought about most was what it would be like to have a normal family and live in a house full of warmth and love. He wanted that. He was a little envious of people who had that, not that Neville would ever wish to take that away from anyone or feel good about anyone losing family; it was only that he wanted that too.

Neville didn't talk much about his parents. In fact, aside from Gran, he rarely spoke to anyone about them at all. Oh, he'd mention things like having been to see them but that was about all. Almost no one asked after them and Neville didn't volunteer, the exception to that was Pansy. She nearly always inquired when she knew he'd been to St. Mungo's. Pansy had even gone so far as to mention an article she read on a Muggle therapy she thought might offer some help. It didn't bother him to talk about his parents with her. Neville wasn't really sure why, except that with Pansy, he never got the feeling she was feeling sorry for him. She was compassionate, which initially had surprised him, but didn't anymore. Neville knew that Pansy wasn't used to expressing her feelings but he was learning how to tell just how strongly she did feel. It made Neville feel better to talk about his mum and dad with Pansy.

He'd suggested that Pansy be the one to give Mum the piece of Droobles for her to open for Dad. "Mum might try to hug you. I'd appreciate it if you let her, Pansy. She's not very strong, so she won't hug long, if she does," Neville told her as he handed over the piece of blowing gum before entering the ward. He reached for her hand and gave it a squeeze, as much to reassure himself as Pansy. "Ready?"
