Date: 21 March 1999 Characters: Dean Thomas, Hermione Granger Location: The Pink Umbrella Status: Semi-Private Summary: Dean and Hermione break for lunch together. Completion: Incomplete
The morning had passed quickly with reorganizing files and getting things into an order that suited Hermione's tastes. There had been a brief break earlier when Harry had owled her, and she had been in a better mood than before after they made plans for tomorrow. It was funny how something as simple as planning dinner with him could improve her mood.
At lunch, she neatly arranged her table space and then went to meet Dean. They had decided to meet at the Pink Umbrella for lunch, which should be enjoyable. He was one of the few friends that she had seen somewhat regularly since classes had ended, and she was curious to hear how he felt his paintings had been received on Saturday.
When she arrived, she found him already seated and waiting. She walked over and sat down across from him. "Good afternoon, Dean. How has your morning been?"
"Hermione, hi," he said as she took the seat across from him. He laughed. "Busy, as usual, but I'm starting to get used to it. What about you? How's the new job? Something with the Cultural Centre, right? I think Fleur mentioned something about it, but I didn't really catch any details."
Dean's eyes flicked back down to the menu. He'd nearly narrowed it down between the fish sandwich and some sort of chicken dish he wasn't sure how to pronounce. "Know what's good? I've never eaten here before."
"I'm glad you're at least adapting to your new schedule. I've found that you can manage just about anything once you've got routines established and are organized."
"No, not the Cultural Centre. I'm the new Advocate for Magical Equality. The Cultural Centre is a project that is being sponsored and supported by Magical Equality, but Eloise Midgen has been hired to coordinate the centre," she explained. "It's going well. I just started on Monday, so this week is mostly learning the cases and meeting people."
She ordered a glass of pumpkin juice then opened her menu. "I've been here a few times. Honestly, I've not ever had anything that wasn't good. I really like their bacon sandwich and chips." In fact, she decided to order that today and closed her menu. "How was your birthday? Did you get a chance to take a break from work so you could celebrate?"
"Oh, right," Dean said, nodding. "She mentioned El, too. Kind of hard to keep it straight when I was pretty much just worrying about which paintings I should include in that display at the time. So 'Advocate,' eh? What exactly does that entail?"
His stomach growled. A bacon sandwich sounded pretty good, too, but he filed that away for a later visit. He folded his menu and placed it on the edge of the table. The fish sandwich would be perfect for a busy day like this.
At her question, he said, "My birthday was brilliant. I didn't work a single minute the whole day. Saw my family, Katie, and the guys, so it was worth breaking for. Besides," he added, grinning, "Shay threatened to double check the planner, so I had no choice in the matter."
