Terry wasn't sure why he'd gone to the Three Broomsticks for lunch today. He'd heard rumours that NEWT scores would be sent out in the very near future, possibly even today; maybe he wanted to be in a public place in case his marks were really bad, so that he couldn't just stick his head in the toilet and give up. At any rate his stomach had been in knots since he woke up. He probably should have gone in to the Ministry and done a whole day's work at his internship, but he was too nervous to work until he got his marks.
Perusing the menu, he ordered a cup of tea and some toast, which was about all he thought his stomach could handle at the moment. Rosmerta gave him one of those looks, then patted his shoulder and wished him luck; Terry thanked her with a faint smile. She'd barely turned away from him when a barn owl swooped in and dropped a heavy scroll bearing the Ministry's seal on Terry's table.
This is it, he thought, unrolling the scroll with shaky hands. Staring at the parchment, he read his scores carefully:
