Date: February 26, 1999 Characters: Hestia Jones, Percy Weasley Location: Muggle London Status: Private Summary: Hestia and Percy check out the cinema. Completion: Incomplete
Percy held Hestia's hand, rubbing his thumb over her wrist a bit and trying to hide his apprehension. He'd never done something that he actually studied in Muggle Studies, but here they were, going to a moving picture show. The cinemas, Hestia had said, and said they'd have popped corn and could snuggle in the dark. It all sounded good to Percy, even if he was a bit out of his element. At least he was dressed similarly to the other Muggles, he thought, as they got into the long queue to purchase tickets. He had so many questions for her, and he wasn't even sure if she could answer them, so he kept them to himself for now. But really, what were those little cards some Muggles were giving to the other Muggles behind the counter? And why did it smell like they'd just walked into a vat of butter? "So you said you haven't done this before?" Percy asked, again.
"No, but I've heard about it," she said. "This is so exciting, isn't it? Going out and doing something completely Muggle," she whispered. "I mean I've eaten at their restaurants and shopped, but we have those." She looked over at the funny still pictures, trying to decide which one of the Muggle moving picture shows they should watch. "What do you think about Shakespeare in Love? I enjoyed some of his plays."
Percy brushed his lips across her temple when she leaned in to whisper about Muggles, smiling faintly. "It is all very exciting," he agreed mildly, trying to relax for her sake. What did it matter, really, if he made some blunder? "Should we pretend to be Russian again?"
He followed her gaze to the large pictures along the wall, starting to get used to how stationary they were. "Shakespeare in Love? Well, I think it looks more interesting than You've Got Mail. 'Someone you pass on the street may already be the love of your life,'" he read, frowning a little. The picture for Shakespeare in love reminded him of his mum's romance novels, but maybe Hestia would like that.
Hestia giggled. "Mmm...maybe not today. I don't want to draw too much attention to us. We can just be a pair of newlyweds who've spent so long blissfully shagging that we've completely forgotten how the outside world works." She leaned up and kissed him gently. All part of the plan, of course.
"Yes. The mailbox looks funny. I don't like it," Hestia decided with a frown. "Shakespeare sounds much better," she said as they moved towards the front of the queue. "Now then, we'll just have to figure out the snacks. The Dursleys ate a lot of snacks, so hopefully I'll recognize some of them."
