Date: 30 January 1999 Characters: Harry Potter, Anyone Else Location: Honeydukes Status: Public Summary: Harry stops at Honeydukes for some essentials. Completion: Incomplete
Hogsmeade was always a nice change from London. Colder up here, of course, but that just allowed for more elaborate gloves and fur hats, so Muriel didn't mind too much.
And chocolate certainly sounded good.
She was certain she looked out of place stepping into Honeydukes - perhaps one of those newer places in Diagon would have been more 'her style' - but she didn't particularly care. Honeydukes had been around when even she was young.
She was browsing their selection of chocolates when she glanced sideways and spotted a young man who looked rather familiar. Trying not to be too obvious, she studied him, and came to the conclusion... yes, that's Harry Potter.
She'd never had the chance to meet him before, and she wouldn't lose it now.
"Are you Mr Potter?" she asked. "One of Ronald's friends, yes?"
Harry looked up quickly when he heard his name; spotting Ron's Aunt Muriel, he did a bit of a double take -- he just wished he hadn't been too obvious about it. She wouldn't recognise him, of course, but he'd certainly talked to her.
Come to think of it, he'd heard a lot about her lately.
"Er," he began, wondering when, if ever, would be a good time to let her know that they were sort-of already acquainted. He shifted, realising one of the levitating sherbet balls he'd been holding had drifted up alongside his ear. He grabbed it and set it back down, clearing his throat. "Yeah, that's me. Hullo."
He seemed rather surprised to be addressed. Muriel thought that curious, because surely he often had strangers stopping to speak to him. But then again, perhaps that made a person a little twitchy.
"I'm sorry, you probably have people you don't know saying hello all the time. I'm Ron's great aunt, Muriel." She extended her hand. "A pleasure to meet you. Ron has mentioned you so many times, but when I didn't see you at Bill and Fleur's wedding, I thought he might have been exaggerating how well he knew you. Still, I suppose you had bigger cauldrons to stir last year, didn't you?"
"Oh. Well yeah, but it's really not that, erm, bad," he said for lack of anything better. He took her hand and shook it as she talked about the wedding and not seeing him there. No avoiding it at this point, he supposed; it would feel weird to stand here and act as if he'd never seen her a day in his life. "Good to meet you, too -- officially, that is."
He shrugged a little. "He wasn't exaggerating. Actually, I was there," he began, "at the wedding, I mean. We talked, even, you and I ... I wasn't really myself at the time. I mean I was, but, not." He shook his head and tried again. "D'you remember talking to one of Ron's cousins that day? Name was Barny?" At least, he hoped he was remembering his code name correctly.
