It was so late in the morning that it was practically afternoon, but since he expected Katie around noon, Dean had gotten a relatively early start. Well, early considering how late he'd gotten home, at least. He had all of the ingredients for the waffles laid out on the counter--he had an intact copy of the recipe, naturally--and had tidied the kitchen and the rest of the downstairs floor. He hoped Grams's instructions made the concoction as easy as she made it seem. He'd watched her make them over Christmas, but she always made everything look ridiculously simple.
Dean leaned back against the counter and ran a hand over his face, taking a deep breath. It was strange, making these preparations for a bird to come over. Particularly when this bird had been nothing but a friend until just over a week ago. It was all sort of a whirlwind in his mind. But then, he supposed having more free time than normal made such things seem even more intense than they probably were. He was having fun, despite the lack of a good night's sleep, so that was all that mattered for the moment.
He had the hot cocoa heated and ready for them by the time Katie arrived at 12:05. "Glad you could make it," he teased as she stepped out of the floo. He kissed her on the cheek and handed her a warm mug. "Sleep well?"
