The sky had been a bit cloudy when they'd buried Snape, but it had been warm.
It had been the last funeral, Harry mused, the last time they would have to bury someone who had died unnecessarily because of the war. It didn't really get any easier each time, not that it should get easier, or that Harry was sure he wanted it to. Mostly, it was just over now. And he was glad of it.
With Ron and Hermione's help in the planning, he'd tried to stick as close to what Snape had said he wanted as possible. The service had been held in Godric's Hollow, and he'd been buried close to where his parents, to where his mother, lay.
There'd been no ostentatious floral arrangements, no flowery emotional speeches. The people in attendance had been those who'd respected him, or, had learned to.
Whatever their differences had been before, and still were, Harry respected Snape now. And for all the jumbled thoughts and back-and-forth in his mind about why he'd chosen to do this, it really went back to that.
By the time Harry got back to Hogwarts and made his way downstairs with Ron and Hermione, Kreacher already had the dungeons clean, with tables full of his own cooking. This was where Snape had taught, where he'd lived during his time at Hogwarts, and it had seemed fitting to hold the get-together, for lack of a better word, here. As people arrived, both those who'd been at the funeral and those who hadn't, he did a final check of the room to make sure everything seemed alright. He was a lousy host, all in all, but hopefully there wouldn't be too much of that involved.
