Today was the only day with two classes. Well, technically three except two rotated every week. Arithmancy had been first thing in the morning, which was the first class that Hermione hadn't shared with Harry and Ron. They'd taken Herbology during the morning instead of the afternoon, so that would be her second class without them. She could only hope that she was friendly with a couple of people taking it at that time.
There were few things worse than sitting in class surrounded by people and still feeling alone. Her first couple of months at Hogwarts had been that way, which was one reason she had always tried to be friendly with people sitting around her, in case they felt the same way. Arithmancy hadn't been too bad because several members of the revision group were taking it, too, so she'd had familiar people around. Not that there was time to talk or be social in class, of course. They were too busy for such things, which suited her just fine. If they had to partner up in projects, though, she'd hopefully be okay. She had experience at not being chosen for groups, too, and it wasn't a pleasant feeling at all.
Yesterday had been a rough day. Not difficult, but just emotional in a way that left her drained and thoughtful. It had been worth it, though, because she did feel better. It wasn't in any major way or anything she could even explain to someone. It was just her mood, maybe, and how she was trying to view what happened to her and what she was doing now. The nightmares hadn't suddenly vanished nor had she instantly felt as if she could go off and brave a crowd of strangers, but her outlook was more hopeful than fearful, so that surely had to be a good sign.
Instead of going to the Great Hall for lunch or eating in the common room, she walked out to the courtyard. It was a warm day despite the rain, and there was a bench with proper cover that she could sit on while watching the rain fall. She had brought a sandwich from home, so she decided she'd just sit outside and eat. Despite the nervous tension that being outdoors seemed to cause now, she found the sound of the rain soothing, so she thought she'd relax soon enough. It was quiet out here, not that she was necessarily avoiding people or anything, and the air smelled good. Once she sat down, she got a book from her bag but didn't open it yet. She just sat back and watched the rain fall.
