It had been a pain trying to keep him away from the greenhouses all day. He'd spent the morning and early afternoon with his Gran and then had of course, stopped by the Greenhouses but thankfully Sprout booted him out. Once he'd gone they'd started in on decorations, but Ginny didn't get to help long. He was to be at the Burrow at six and it was already five and how in the hell did time seem to move so quickly? By the time he arrived at the Burrow, the others (Eloise and Luna and Dean) only had a few hours to finish getting the decorations up in time for the party.

Ginny had baked and decorated the cake the night before and it was already at Hogwarts perched on one of the greenhouse tables. Gin hated that she wasn't there to help finish setting up, but she'd help clean after, she'd promised. It was simply easier for her to bring Neville to the Burrow without raising suspicions than it would have been to send him on some bullshit errand.

Besides, it was nice to get to spend some time alone with him. He'd be the center of attention in a bit, with all his friends, and she didn't mind sharing. But it made it all the sweeter that she got him to herself for a while first.

She cooked dinner for him, and then they went for a walk. She had his gift tucked safely into her pocket, but wanted to wait until later to give it to him. She was nervous about it and procrastination was, after all, an art form.

The owl arrived right on time and Gin didn't give anything away as he read it. She really, really owed Professor Sprout for this. A delivery of seedlings was coming in, last minute, and could he pop in to sign and pay the owl for them? She was sorry it was so late and such last minute notice, but she had been called out of town and would be gone in a half hour and she felt terrible as it was his birthday and everything.

Ginny assured Neville it was fine, she didn't mind, and she'd be glad to keep him company. He seemed to like that idea and gave no arguments, and a few minutes after 8 they apparated to the Hogwarts gates.

Oh god oh god oh god, please let everything have gone right.

She held his hand as they walked cross the grounds and managed to get to the door first, opening it for him and turning to watch his face as the group inside yelled SURPRISE!!!
