It was ridiculous, really. On his way home to the Burrow, Percy had been thinking of little but sleep, in his own bed, finally.
And now it was two in the morning, and his eyes just would not close. The old familiarity of the room was no comfort at all, and the bed felt... well, it wasn't exactly coming home, was it? Three years too late, and it felt too damn late every time he noticed - or thought about - something that was different now.
Charlie was fast asleep in a rickety cot, jammed between Percy's desk and the door. Percy stepped over him, careful not to disturb his brother as he padded out to the landing in his borrowed pyjamas. He hesitated outside the door that had been the twins' for so long, even though in his head it still belonged to Bill and Charlie.
Now it was Fred's room, just Fred's, and that was too awful to think about. Percy laid his hand on the door for a moment. "I'll be back in a bit," he whispered. "I won't leave you for long."
Then he went downstairs, to the kitchen that certainly had not changed. If he couldn't sleep, then at least there was tea.
