Date: Wednesday, 25 October, 1999 | Afternoon Characters: Stephen Cornfoot, Kevin Entwhistle Location: Rusty Cauldron Status: Public Summary: Stephen goes in search of paint. Completion: Incomplete
Kevin entered the Rusty Caulron and went straight ahead for the paint. With all those overtime hours he had accumulated, he had decided to spend them on an afternoon off to surprise his mum for her birthday. Sure it was only November 2nd, but who cared. Felicia was working tonight and Kevin had decided that repainting the living room would be a nice way to surprise her.
Bradley would probably get the credit of this initivative since their mother had been talking about it for a while and he was the one living home, but it was truly Kevin's idea to ask her to explain what she wanted to do even though decorating was really not one of his talents.
He looked at the parchement he had taken notes on and started to look for the colors she was talking about, taking a mental note to not forget those curtains she's told Brad she wanted too.
Kevin picked up a slip of paper with assorted shades of blue on it. Blue might be a good choice, but would it be more of a bedroom color? Would blue seem too depressing in the living room? Should the kitchen be a different shade?
He frowned down at the paint chip. Someone stepped up beside him, and he scooted over to make room. "Kevin," he said, recognising him. "Thinking of painting, too?"
Kevin jumped and nodded at Stephen as they both recognized each other. "Um," he looked at his paper and then at the display. "Not really, well yes. It's for my mum. It's her birthday next week, and Brad and I are going to repaint the living room."
He picked up a chip and quirked his brow. She said buttery yellow, not canary yellow.. "She hasn't changed a thing since dad died and she's starting to want to move on."
Stephen was mildly surprised that Kevin was painting for his mother--not exactly that Kevin was doing it but that Stephen couldn't imagine doing anything so thoughtful for his mum. Not at present.
"Thoughtful," he said, turning his attention back to the paint colors. "Do you have any idea where to start?"
Kevin mentioned that his mum was trying to move on after her husband's death, and Stephen could understand that. "They say it's healthy," he said, feeling a bit stupid. He wasn't exactly good at consoling anyone, and he wasn't sure what had happened to Kevin's dad, but he hated to hear it, just the same.
