The Day After The Election

To whom it may concern,

I had to drink last night. There was just too much of my future that was riding on in this election. So after pretending to study for 4 hours while peeping in on election results online I gave up and went to a bar. Precisely. What happened yesterday, while I was quite pleased with the election of Obama, was despicable. It tempered any and all my joy about the Obama election to see the results of Prop 8, especially considering how much feeling I had invested in this election. I went out of my way to cast an absentee ballot for it from Japan I felt it was so important, watched as much coverage as I possibly could holed up in my school's computer lab watching the streaming coverage online. I can't even be elated about new President-Elect Obama without being disgusted by our state, and indeed our nation of voters in general.

We will win in the long run, I believe. But that doesn't mean that every setback doesn't hurt.

I cried last night. For you and for every person I love whose rights were taken away, and for those I've never met, and because I moved around too often, so when I tried to register, my paperwork got all fucked up, so I couldn't vote (please don't be mad at me, I tried so hard and prop 8 was the only reason I did ( ... )
