I love these weather forecasts that say "mostly cloudy" when I've had sun streaming in my windows all morning.

It's another one of those gray mornings, chilly (but not bitter -- that comes later in the week), with a nasty north wind.

A perfect day to stay inside and make soup.

to take the bus the block and a half to the corner store, but I'd have to wait at the bus stop in this mess for longer than it would take me to walk.

That's how crappy it is outside right now -- snow, wind, more snow, more wind, and falling temperatures.  Even the buses are traveling in packs, probably in a feeble attempt to stay warm.

after days and days and days and days of clouds and no sun.

I feel better already.

Later:  Biscuits and gravy for breakfast didn't hurt, either -- I've been wanting that, and finally got around to doing it.  Yum.

My coffee jar holds about 9-1/2 ounces.  My coffee comes in 10-ounce bricks.

What's a poor boy to do?

In other news, my tree has snow on the branches this morning, which means a) it snowed again last night, and b) it was warm enough for the snow to be wet enough to stick.

It's foul -- snow, wind, slush, the works.

And I'm going to have to go out -- there are things I need to pick up.  I'd guess I'd best do it before the temperature drops too much -- we're up for highs in the single digits and lows in negative numbers over the next couple of days.

The day started off gloomy.  Then it got gloomier.

And gloomier.

With the wind howling out of the north.

And I had to go out and pick up some groceries.

Bleh.

about going to the Zoo today.  Then, while standing on the windiest corner in Chicago experiencing the reality of a high of 39 and a north wind of 35-40 mph (gusting up to 50), and figuring I had a good 15-20 minute wait for the bus, I changed my mind.

Yes, there is snow, more like sleet, light, but it's not melting.
