This is what I have to say about it. I get pretty weary of the whole self righteous, "We have it soooo much better than so many other people. We shouldn't complain" declaration. It's a great excuse to invalidate other people's feelings, worries, concerns, etc. Yeah, sometimes some people do need to be reminded that it isn't so bad, but you never ever struck me as a whiny spoilt type, so saying something so flippant to you is just rude. Not trying to start drama, but this is one of my pet peeves. The fact of the matter is, we live in a different frame of reference, and just because it's better than perhaps other people's doesn't minimize the things that upset us. It's just different ( ... )

I'm sorry if I contributed to your feeling of dumbness. That little part just struck me as silly and provided a much needed smile today. I think those kinds of things can cause people to feel defensive and nitpicky, because they think "just because I have xy and z doesn't mean I'm Paris Hilton, GAWD," but I think serves as an important reminder of how fortunate we are. The fact that everyone who is reading this on the internet and is able to read and able access the internet even if it's from a library or a school means we are probably pretty privileged compared to much of the world, even if we can't buy new shoes all the time or something. at least you sparked a conversation. Things could be worse, sure, but I hope they get even better for you.
