Bob, This sounds kind of like.... "How many lawyers does it take to change a light bulb" sort of. Oh well, you got back safely and thriftly (?) I guess. Were those two other lawyers Scottish by any chance?

The thing is, the client will re-imburse us for our travel expenses, and if we'd done it the proper way, we would have taken a certain train line owned by the client at a charge of about 47 pounds for the train ride, and that would have gone right into the pockets of the client; so, everybody wins. Alas--
