But I have a suggestion that I cannot explain. I have seen many places in Dallas do this and they say it is common in Mexico. They hand plastic bags of water from the roof rafters. Some claim it is the sunlight refracting/reflecting in the water that keeps the flies away.
We tried that while on Wodegai, sort of (we didn't have a clear bag with us, only blue-ish ones). It seems to work if you're sitting at a dining table. On the ground of a semi-outdoor kitchen, well, there are so many millions of flies it would seem hopelee. We envisioned fly strips or fly paper being matted solid within minutes, and still having no real effect on the multitude of flies.

I have no clue, but it seems to work.
