Thoughts on July 4 . . . .

I miss celebrating Independence Day in the USA. The last year I was there for it was 2001, and Danka and Joe and I went to a soccer game at Mile High Stadium -- Colorado Rapids vs. DC United, and watched a fireworks display afterward ( Read more... )

What is it about the Colorado fourth of July game that makes it such a special event? Each year the Rapids draw about three times their usual attendance average for this game. Are the tickets cheaper than usual, do they publicize the heck out of it, or what?

I'm really curious.

Denver is such a great sports town, but the Rapids are a distant 6th place among pro franchises (even behind Elway's Arena Football team). Even lower if you throw in the Buffs football program. I would guess that it is the increased advertising and fireworks for the July 4th game that increases the attendance so much. It makes for a comfortable front-row seat for your own fireworks show after the game. Frankly, that is what we went for -- for Danka to see a fireworks show. There was only one other time that Joe got me to go see the Rapids . . . .
