Where I'm at, and who you are

For those wondering why I've been making myself scarce the last couple of days, I've got avarill visiting me right now, plus a whole bunch of Christmas-related stuff that Must Be Done this weekend, so I'm afraid I'll be keeping a low profile for a couple of days yet. By Tuesday, though, things should be pretty much back to normal ( Read more... )

I still haven't read the Harry Potter books, but I always look at your art anyway.

I play organ, and practise in a 18th-century church very late at night. (It's one of the few times that I can avoid the crowd of tourists). My favourite part of practising is to wait for a group of tourists or College students to walk by the deserted-looking church -- and then pull out all the stops (because that's where the expression comes from) and start banging out Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor. Their shrieks are a beautiful accompaniment to the lovely music I'm making. ^_^

What You May Not Know About Me: My parents spent a year as married students at Emmaus Bible School (not College yet at that time), so that I ended up attending classes in utero until my birth in April of that year. (One of the teachers, Paul Flint, a long-time friend of my mom's family, teased my mom for decades afterward about being a "dropout.")

(Note to gramarye1971: Brilliant use of BWV565!)

1) I'm a third-year organic chemistry graduate student. Oddly enough, wet chemistry is not really my forte. I suspect that Professor Snape wouldn't know what to make of me--I have Hermione's mind for the theoretical aspects of the work, and Neville's hand at the cauldron.

2) I am very fond of guinea-pigs and just received permission from my apartment manager and from my new roommate to bring my guinea-pig back to Madison with me when I return from Christmas vacation at my parents' house in Utah. My father is delighted.

3) I am a natural red-head, though the strawberry blonde of my childhood has darkened to a russet colour--more brown than red in some lighting conditions.

4) When I read fiction for pleasure, I average between 60 and 90 pages per hour. In the past three weeks, I have read ten and a half novels (six Anne Perry, four Dorothy Sayers, and half of a Laurie King (The Beekeeper's Apprentice, which I have not finished yet only because I have not allowed myself to stay up all night reading it!)). Hmm, it must be the end of ( ... )

I don't tend to watch episodic television. The last time I set aside time to watch a TV series, it was for the local PBS broadcasts of Red Dwarf back around '99-'00.

I usually catch the rebroadcasts of This Old House on Thursday nights at 1 AM, though. I can't explain why.
