DOCTOR WHO: "Amy's Choice" (5x07)

May 21, 2010 16:12

A deceptively simple, character-driven episode that at times strains credulity to the limit -- but there's a very good reason for that, as we find out at the end.

And I loved it LIKE PIE.

All of this, x100. This was easily my favorite episode of the season yet, and it totally solidified (not that it needed much) my deep and abiding love for Amy, Rory and Eleven. And as others have said, the fact that, in the end, Amy chooses Rory over her "raggedy Doctor" is such a wonderful statement, that I think New Who has been sorely missing.

Amazing how much more balanced and fun this show is when the Doctor isn't the Emo Center of the Universe.

Once again, red and blue are important.

It's the Matrix!!! Will you choose the red pill, or the blue pill?

YOU ARE A GENIUS. I bet it is, you know? It definitely has something to do with there being two parallel realities, and I bet you ten to one it really is a subtle MATRIX tribute. Hee!

You = genius also! I was thinking about Rory's neutral wardrobe and wondering what it could mean...

YES. I am loving Eleven so much right now. I love that the writing is getting smarter and more involved, and these characters are quickly become my favourites. (and yay for a Scottish companion!) I agree with what everyone has been saying and I cannot wait to see where the show goes from here. If this keeps up it's going to be one amazing season.

Yes! This was such a great show, and the moment when I really, truly fell head over heels for it was right at the end, when we found out who the Dream Lord really was. THAT was just so perfect. :)

Inorite? It was a total "gasp! But that makes sense of EVERYTHING!" moment and I can't believe I didn't see it coming.

It's so great when we don't see things coming. Too many shows these days are so predictable I figure out what's going to happen in the first 10 minutes.

It was a good episode but as all things that I hate about TV, they over sold it. well my friends did, usually all they talk about for 3 days straight is the episode just finished, instead they went on and on abut what was going to happen, it kind of ruined it for me. But I still loved it. Rory and the Doctor work really well(well means bad but it works in the series) As somene said before, Rory is much better than Mickey, this is because instead of being a wimp till a second series(if there is one) Rory gets straight in and basically disagrees with everything the doctor is but respects him in a weird way!

My trouble with Amy (and I know you don't want to hear why I dislike Amy, just hear me out) is less a problem with Amy herself and more a pacing problem. I loved her in the first two episodes, but after that, it seemed like the writers were just granting her a relationship with the Doctor that hadn't had time yet to properly develop ( ... )

Yes, it absolutely makes sense -- you're right that Amy's jumped way ahead in her understanding of the Doctor from what we would normally expect at this point. But I'm starting to think there may be more to it than that. What looks like carelessness on the surface may be a deliberate choice on the writers' part -- an implication that Amy's had encounters and conversations with the Doctor in the past that we don't know about yet ( ... )
