Back to the Whoture

After the trauma of watching that New Who season ender, I need some Old Skool Doctor Who to cleanse my palate. Preferably episodes I haven't seen (or at least not lately), which means that the entire Five era is pretty much out. Six is also out, since I've seen all I ever want to see of Colin Baker already, and I've also seen nearly all of the ( Read more... )

I can't stand the Daemons, but hey...

1st: The Daleks. Really hard to go wrong with this one.
2nd: The Invasion. A classic, now with animated Ep. 1 and 4!
3rd: The Green Death. A better sappy Pertwee family one than Daemons.
4th: Horror of Fang Rock. Highly underrated Tom Baker.

If it's the Master you want, I thought "The Keeper of Traken" was quite good -- a bit slow and obvious in places, and Tom Baker pulls some truly alarming facial expressions, but it was thoroughly enjoyable.

"Inferno" is Master-free, of course, but it's thoroughly brilliant. AUs! Eyepatches! Liz Shaw and the Brigadier torturing the Doctor! It's a seven-parter, so the pacing is a bit weird, but the initial 1970-sexism gives way to a rather sweet romance, and Liz Shaw is Martha Jones. Right down to leaving because she was unappreciated, actually. Huh.

I *will* find my list of "refresher course" episodes, I will.... Oh, there it is.

One: The Daleks, The Rescue, The Time Meddler, The Tenth Planet

Two: Tomb of the Cybermen, The Seeds of Death

Three: The Mind of Evil (M is suavely evil, and Jo kicks butt, too), The Daemons, Day of the Daleks, Time Warrior

Four: Um, well, kinda had a problem narrowing that down, actually.... The Ark In Space, Revenge of the Cybermen, Planet of Evil, Pyramids of Mars, Brain of Morbius (my housemate insisted!), Image of the Fendahl, Sunmakers, City of Death

Um, hi, by the way. I intro'd myself here a while back under my other LJ, then I went and got this one for fannish purposes. Trying to keep the two isolated from each other does have its drawbacks. Let's see.... Al Stewart, Bujold, and Buckaroo Banzai, oh my?

i very much heart "the war games" -- somehow ten parts of the doctor, zoe and jamie getting captured by various armies and then escaping and getting then getting captured and then escaping is awesome instead of tedious. also you can retcon the war chief as the master according to preference (BEARD OF EVIL).
