Knife - The Web Page

Sep 30, 2006 18:24

So I was making up business cards for the SCBWI conference I'm attending next weekend, and somehow I ended up putting a URL for Knife on the card, in spite of the fact that I didn't actually have a page set up for it yet.

But now I do. And besides the Prologue it also includes a link to Chapter One, for anyone who might be interested.

knife, novels, writing, publishing, web pages, fantasy

Oh wow! I'm completely bowled over by Chapter One, now! I'm so glad you got a website up and were kind enough to share some more of the story with us. Thank you so much!

Yes, the book is about fairies, of the small winged female variety, and I know full well that as soon as I say that, you are going to think of Tinkerbell -- which in this case would be a mistake. You see, these fairies are in fact unimaginative, grimly pragmatic folk who have lost their magic and live in constant dread of the outside world, and in a cage match with my crow-killing heroine a bit of fluff like Tink wouldn't last two minutes.

I don't like fantasy, but I do enjoy your writing (fan fic, and the first two parts of Knife). I'm also a published children's book author (a former member of SCBWI), and THIS is the way I would try to summarize Knife in two short (okay, long) sentences. Fairies with attitude. Or something along those lines. That'll catch someone's attention at the conference.

Good luck and have fun.

PS I think you should decide whether it's faeries (so British and quaint) or fairies (more American and modern).

Thanks very much! I appreciate the advice and encouragement. And yes, I do intend to have fun. I'll write up a report when I get back.

Re your PS: after playing around for the past two weeks with "fairies" and "fae", I've gone back to my original spelling of "faeries". British and quaint is okay, in this case. :)

I'm really, really liking the new prologue and chapter one. I only got to read the first 4 chapters before (I still have them saved on my harddrive), but I was so interested even by those several-revisions-ago chapters that I wish I could have read the rest. :) Now, with the improvements you made in characterization, story arc, and just plain mystery and intrigue. . . I can't WAIT until you find a publisher and I can pimp your books to all my friends. :)

I'm glad you added a link to the original sketch of Knife, I was wondering if I should ask you to do that. A picture paints a thousand words.

Terrific so far.

But Tinkerbell was actually a violent, murderous little fairy with plenty of bad attitude, wasn't she? ;-)
