I just got an e-mail from Laurie R. King telling me she's paid the entire registration fee for me to go to Bouchercon 2004 in October. She said it was a thank-you gift for running RUSS-L all these years.

I've read Val McDermid -- her Wire in the Blood series is very good. Although I'm a Bad Fan, and I think the TV series it inspired is better than the books. (This is the one starring Robson Green, who disturbs me by simultaneously looking like Jason Isaacs and Alan Rickman, depending on the camera ange.)

Wow! In an amazing moment of serendipity, I have just discovered Laurie R. King's series while browsing my mom's old stash of favourite mysteries. Finished the first at a gallop and am now devouring the second, but I can't find the third. Time to visit the bookstore!
