Characters:: Cloud and Sephiroth Date/Time:: 30th January 12-ish Location:: Shinra building Rating:: G? Summary:: Cloud sees an advert...and things were going well...
The receptionist raised her eyebrow. It was clear from the look on her face that she'd definitely seen better looking applicants pass through these halls in the last couple days. "Well, that's nice for you, hon," she said. Her attention was quickly returned to the gossip magazine lying on the desk in front of her. Why on earth should she possibly care if a kid was supposed to come to the stupid building? It wasn't any of her business.
Continuing on with her reading (and ignoring the fact that if Rufus Shinra himself happened by her desk, she'd be very, very fired), she waited patiently for the kid to go away. He didn't though, and after a couple minutes she looked up again, irritated. Didn't he see that she was doing something important? "What?" she asked, impatient.
Well this was going absolutely no where. Frowning at her as she snapped at him. Well, wasn't it obvious why he was here? Narrowing his eyes at the annoying girl behind the desk, Cloud reached over and snatched the magazine she'd been reading. He still wanted a little more respect from people.
"Why do people insist on reading this crap?" Shaking his head and holding it away from him (and at the same time, the girl known as Bitch to Cloud) as if it held some kind of disease. Allowing a small smile to appear as he looked back at her. "Tell you what, I'll give this back, if you do your damn job, and tell me where I go for this interview. More importantly, who the hell I've to see."
She made a face at him, one that rather effectively expressed her opinion of him: that was annoying, stupid, and needed to go away. "Fine," she snapped, but only because she wanted her magazine back and he definitely looked like he could do some real damage if she pressed her luck any further.
"Who are you supposed to see?" She'd just tell him the elevator and floor and the brat could find his OWN damn way.
Shrugging his shoulders. "Uh, security?" He hadn't been told much on the phone. But he also had to be quite in order to allow a certain someone to sleep on. Once he got the information he needed, Cloud left the desk, chucking the magazine behind him. Not checking to see where it landed. A little blackmail went a long, long way. He had a visitor pass incase he was stopped by security
( ... )
Cloud had the rest of that day to think about it and 3 hours from when he woke up on the 31st. Taking a deep breath, Cloud stared at the front door. He'd work the nerve up soon enough. Zack hadn't been told about the disaster that was yesterday. The slip up.
Gripping the door handle, Cloud opened the door and stepped out.
Leaving well before the rush hour would have started. Just so he would get there in time. Again parking his bike, and entering the building. He looked to the receptionist, looked like a different girl. Cloud told her he was expected and was told where he was to go.
He'd been waiting anxiously for nine am since he'd rolled out of bed that morning. Sephiroth was sure that Cloud would be coming since he hadn't called the night before. To be honest, he had his own set of concerns about giving Cloud his business card. Zack could potentially find it, and Sephiroth honestly never wanted to see the man again if this was the path Zack had chosen.
Currently he was waiting a bit nervous outside the elevators for the man's arrival. His secretary had confiscated his cigarettes and coffee, insisting that he needed to learn to start coping like a man instead of a pussy.
It was five minutes to nine, and part of Sephiroth was desperately hoping the kid wouldn't show up for his testing and orientation.
Cloud had made sure not to leave the business card behind. Stuck safely in his wallet. With his wallet on him almost 24/7. There wasn't any turning back now, the receptionist must have buzzed up to let them know of his arrival. Part of him hoped the elevator would break down. So he could then allow his want for home to completely win.
That dreadful sound of notification the elevator made, sent his heart racing even more. The doors slid open and Cloud left them. He was a little better dressed this time. Black skinny jeans and a plain black t-shirt. Sighing he looked up, seeing Sephiroth, he couldn't help but stand just that little straighter, and of course turn his head away. He couldn't bring himself to look directly at the man. Not just now. This was going to be a long day.
He had two minutes to spare until 9am. Usually always early, something the military had taught him. Better to be early, than to be late and get kitchen duty or do press-ups.
This was so annoyingly awkward. Sephiroth was a little disappointed to see that he hadn't chickened out after all, but he wasn't going to let it show on his face. To be honest, Sephiroth wasn't going to let much of anything show on his face. He's spent most of last night drunk out of his mind, but thankfully didn't get the hangovers that came with such a large amount of alcohol.
"Good morning," he greeted, unclasping his hands from behind his back. "You'll be starting your assessments this morning."
Sephiroth might as well just stick to business. It was the safer way to go.
Cloud had simply spent the night in silence. Thinking about that day. What was said and done. Not even Zack managed to get out of the slump he'd put himself into. Nodding his head, muttering a small 'mornin'' back to Sephiroth.
Assessments, he instantly thought of school. He hoped it was nothing like that. Cloud hadn't really stayed in school long enough to pick up many skills. Another nod to show that he understood the man. His mind kept going over what it might be he had to do. Couldn't be that bad right? After all, wasn't like it was a difficult job he was going to be doing. Actually...he didn't know much about the job he had gone for at all.
"Follow me," he said, turning on his heel and leading the way to the testing facilities. Sephiroth guided them into the computer room, bending over one of the computers and getting it ready for Cloud to take his first series of assessments. He explained what was going to happen, and sat him down in front of it.
"I'll be back to give you your first break in a couple of hours," he said. "Until then, please remain here working. If you need help, my secretary is right there."
Turning to leave, Sephiroth nodded his head at Cloud. "Good luck."
