My favourite response to this is actually from kc-anathema, H/D slash extraordinaire: "Of all the characters she could make gay..." But it's fun that JKR through it in there.

Hm...that does seem fairly organic to Dumbledore's character. That's my problem with slash fic; most of it seems so unlike the gay people I actually know. Actually, up until book 7, I never gave Dumbledore's love life much thought. He was old enough that he could have loved anyone in his youth, and lost that person in any number of ways. But having explored so much of his youth in book 7 and never having it really mention any sort of romantic relationships, it kinda makes sense that he's gay. And given the era he gave up in, it probably makes sense that he never seems to have acted on those feelings/ inclinations/whatever. Although someone will probably write some horrible Snape/Dumbledore slash now that this is out. If they haven't already. I haven't read any HP fic in a long time. It was hard to get into. Either it seemed silly, or it was like watching your little brother have sex. Maybe I was too old when I first read the books or something.
