I wrote this to the Thimbleful Thursday prompt "Couch Potato." This story is in the same universe as A Day On The Farm.

Verrix answered the door reluctantly. He didn’t want to talk to or to see anyone he didn’t have to, or have them see and talk to him, and now he was out of the military he could refuse more often. Except that knock was Caprock’

Somehow I suspect he's going to wind up with a dog though.

In Verrix' case I believe it's not disdain for cats in general but for cats as familiars.

Dogs, well dogs just aren't really familiar material for most mages.

I think he is. If he's up to anything, it's that he doesn't want his friend coming to an avoidably sticky end.
