Unexpected Life Change

I wrote this to aldersprig's tenth prompt "Waking up someone else."

She remembered feeling sick, running a fever, and stumbling out of bed to answer the door. She had a vague impression of opening the door to a posse of locals and then, nothing…

Well, she was in her own bed, that was a start. The curtains were open though, and she always slept with them ( Read more... )

(My co-resident sawaab evidently perceived the topic of my reading and intention to comment on it, through some senses unavailable to this human. She entered the room and took her preferred place just as I was bringing up the comment page.)

My reaction: (Think of sitting down, of an early evening, beside a lake in the country. The weather, the place, the air, the sky, the view are all peaceful and soul-satisfying. There are a couple of ants to swat away.)

The change of speaker was unexpected. May I suggest a new paragraph there?

* that was Swasza from my warband
Morgan/Miikwa's is the POV, but not the narrative voice. "From her warband", yes?

Thank you for the first person catch. I kept dropping into first person all the way through this and having to rewrite bits. It was probably inevitable that I would miss at least one.

Thank you also for catching the change of speaker but no new paragraph.

I will fix both.

Yay! Kittehs! ^_^ Well, not necessarily but claws and tail for balance do lean that way. Not so much the feathers. Or is it a featherlike texture to the fur?

Feathering on her limbs and tail, sort of trailing bits - you see it in some dogs, I think Irish setters have it on their tails.

She's handling this with impressive grace for having been given no warning. Why did they not tell her beforehand?

People get very funny about you changing their species on them, and her cousin might not have told her he was extending the posting - yet.

Even given the ... more controlling social environment suggested by her elder cousin assigning everyone jobs (and the closely held family company?), that seems like an awful lot of failing to inform her of the plan.

(Is she now genetically sawaab, with the nurse suggesting suitors? Can she switch back?)

Her cousin runs the company, so if she goes to work for the company, he assigns her a job. Also, he really didn't realise exactly what he was agreeing to - he just made enquiries about extending her working visa and got a "yes, if" answer.

Yes, she is genetically sawaab and she could switch back if the humans had an equivalent virus...
