On Life During the Time of Not-So-Very-Plaguey

Dec 29, 2010 19:24

So this cold? Kind of kicking my ass. I called out on Tuesday and somehow managed to survive my 6 hour shift today. I am getting all the sleep in the world. My co-workers mock me for carrying around my little box of Puffs with Vicks. I threaten them with my germs. I only had one coughing fit that lasted for about 8 mins and had to keep stepping ( Read more... )

oh man, is it absolutely tragic that i've never actually read anything by austen? i feel so uncultured when i realize this. there are so many books i've never actually read that are like, MUST READS for, you know, EXISTING.

also word on inception--man, i don't know how other people didn't burn out on it. 8|

Eh, to be honest I really dislike Dickens and abhor Bronte, so it's not just you. As much as I love Austen, I'm not a fan of Northanger Abbey or Mansfield Park. Most people love P&P, but Persuasion just kind of owns my heart. It's all about finding again what was once lost, about second chances.

Yeah, inception was just so much at once. I've never seen a fandom explode like that.

Your cold MUST go away VERY SOON. (I am trying to scowl at it through my computer screen. I wonder if it is working...)

Austen, eh? I'm pretty sure I've only read Sense and Sensibility, and have only seen Sense and Sensibility (w/Emma Thompson), Pride and Prejudice (w/Colin Firth), and Emma (w/Gwyneth Paltrow). Someday I should check out more.

*hugs*

It is almost gone! I'm thining two more days until it's nothing but sniffles.

Sense and Sensibility is one of my favorites. Movie-wise I like it more than P&P b/c Alan Rickman shall always be above Colin Firth in my heart. Of course, I still own all the versions you mentioned above. I do highly rec Persuasion. It's her last, lesser-known work, and I find that I connect with it just a tad bit more.

*hugs*

I do have to be careful around who I make my historian jokes. I made one about Fascist Italy that only, really, historians would get and yeah, let's just say that did not go over well.

And everyone needs and Austen re-watch and re-read. I wish I could instant watch the last round of BBC/PBS re-makes but I don't own any of them. :(
