Very interesting. And you're right about their failure to care as much, if at all, about the feminine side of the show. I'm sure they think that pretty girls who are basically chaste, don't indulge in drug etc. and occassionally have a snappy line are enough for all women out there. Heck, maybe they even think they've given us more than is necessary ... Hmph.

I'd be willing to agree with you, except that they present Lois -- Clark's official OTP and True Love -- as unvirginal (she fails the "hair test"), sexually self-aware (she sees Clark naked, tells herself "Look at his face!", and fails), and *way* too good at holding her liquor. In many respects Lois is the anti-Lana, which is curious given how relentlessly AlMiles have been about presenting Lana as the Perfect Girl.
I think, grumpily, that Lois is an Honorary Guy, which is what makes her so good in their minds. She couldn't possibly be tactful and hard-drinking, because that would mix stereotypes. (Admittedly, non-tactful works for the character, especially one who isn't yet the Lois Lane, but it's an example. Will we see Lois enjoying dressing up? I'd be surprised.)
It's interesting to read this. When I first started watching Smallville I actually thought they had some growth in mind for Lana - that she wanted to break away from being the perfect object of desire/town admiration/tragedy, etc and actually struggle towards becoming something else - even to the point of risking failure. How wrong I was

I'll have to think about whether I agree with this.
