Killjoys/Millennial Fandom

OK, so I started watching Killjoys, which is the story of two hot brothers and the woman who bosses them around, in a universe that is almost exactly Firefly’s universe except without the excellent dialogue and where River is in charge both of herself and her crew. It has potential, guys! The lead’s backstory of being a trained killer is ( Read more... )

Killjoys isn't bad, but I prefer the show that comes on right after, Dark Matter. Like Killjoys, it's not a show with genius writing (or acting), but it's an enjoyable way to pass an hour. It's pure popcorn scf fi, which is all I want sometimes.

I wasn't able to tell from descriptions whether I'd like it at all. What do you like about it? (I'm totally happy with popcorn sf--I enjoyed Eureka and Haven greatly.)

I like the mystery, how these characters have to survive and adapt without knowing who they are. I like that the woman is in charge, and none of the male characters even question it. The android is pretty amusing, too.

Same here - I'm watching and liking them both, and while neither excites me, Dark Matter is the one I look forward to, and the one I hope might yet grow into something special.

And is it just me or are One and Three pretty slashy? ;-)

Killjoys has all the right elements, but isn't quite coming together for me yet. I am also having trouble warming up to the older brother (Dev? the special forces guy). Not sure what the problem is.

Thank you for this rundown. I really, really enjoyed reading it. My library doesn't have it, so I probably won't read the book any time soon, but it's now on the list!

There's a lot here for me to think about, so I don't really have a specific response. Just a general "hmmmm".
