For reasons noted best by cesperanza, I don't feel comfortable writing about "the story I keep telling." But I have been thinking about themes, and here are four bits of prose that always grab me, that I write around and read around:

Well, I do like opera. And The Rake's Progress is unutterably dull in the theatre.

So I guess the themes are twofold: Fate versus Free Will, and Not Quite.

You forgot the third theme: "Make Doctor Science happy." Because you do!

I honestly can't remember if I've read Shattered or not. Of Koontz's older books, I would actually recommend Watchers and Dark Rivers of the Heart, but there's not much else there that really stands out.

I have a fondness for Watchers and Strangers, the one with the big red moon. Hmm, seems like Koontz could pick one-word titles for Smallville, doesn't it?
