A lot of nonfiction, including a gun rant

May 29, 2013 14:02

Preliminary notes: (1) Survivorship bias, or why taking lessons only from the successful is a really bad idea, in an elegantly written narrative.

(2) Ugh, I hate grading.

(3) Note to self: Veronica Mars, for all its awesomeness and willingness to engage with class and gender politics, often enough cozied up to the creepy side thereof. ( S1 rewatch in anticipation of movie )

Just a note to say I appreciate your book reviews.

Apparently the sociopath lady was outed, and is now out of a job. http://abovethelaw.com/2013/05/sources-and-dr-phil-offer-insights-author-of-confessions-of-a-sociopath-who-might-be-this-law-professor/

Thanks--the student comments in that link make me hate humanity; I don't think she's out of a job so much as at BYU, though I haven't seen an update about BYU.

I've seen the sociopath confessions book but haven't read it myself. I don't know if I will or not. The review is much appreciated.

The survival bias article you linked to was excellent. I spent a bit of time wandering around that site and reading various other articles. So thanks for that also.
