Walter did steal Peter in the Amber timeline, Peter just died in Reiden Lake because September didn't save him and Walter. My guess is that with Peter dead, when Olivia ran away from the trials at Jacksonville, she just kept on running. She never returned to the day care, didn't try to tell Walter about her stepfather's abuse and accidentally tell Walternate that there was another universe because she crossed over without knowing it. Plus our Walter was pushing Olivia and the other Corfexin kids to enhance their powers so he could get Peter back where he belonged. In the Amberverse, Olivia did not have the type of power she did in the Blueverse. So for Walternate, his son disappeared, his universe started breaking because of Walter's crossing over, but Walternate didn't know what was causing the breakdown and didn't associate it with Peter being stolen so he was less angry with our world and more just wanting to stop the destruction of his world. I'm sure Walternate did see what was happening as a war, but it wasn't as personal ( ... )

Okay, I will buy that! Though I thought the vagenda thing was specifically when Peter was still on the scene--it's a lot creepier of a comment in a Peter-free world. William Bell is still a player without Peter, I guess, so I can still see an incursion by Olivia into the Amberverse resulting in the switch. But the whole machine thing, yes, that is a bit odd and confusing however you slice it.

The vagenda thing was used first with Peter on the scene, but I remember they said it again in the Peter-free world and had Walter say it. I couldn't decide if it was creepy or simply Walter being addled and using a semi-sexist term, because I do NOT want to even think that Altlivia did anything other than bring tasty pastries and milkshakes so Walter would let her hang around and get information. The way to Walter's heart was always through his stomach and I think his stomach was the only thing Altlivia fed. OTOH, there was no indication that Olivia was mistreated while Altlivia took her place, again indicating that the animosity was less on Walternate's side.

So do you think Olivia has both sets of memories to call on at will now? Because while she is clearly a grownup and could work with original recipe AltLivia when Olivia needed a reasonable working relationship to save the world ... I am dubious that original recipe Olivia could give hugs, even if she knew rationally that this AltLivia didn't sleep with Peter. Only the benefit of a different set of memories could get her to hugs, IMHO.

Boy, that ended up being hard to articulate.

I liked the ending, too! I think they did remember a bit that it was Olivia's story but the emotional core of the finale had little to do with her. Oh well--they never actually succeeded in having the emotional core be Olivia's story except in early S3, IMO, so I can't complain that they focused on what was working.

I thought turning the Fringe team into Fringe terrorists was pretty much a stroke of genius and a very cool aspect of S5.

I am sort of mid-S2 rewatch, and I see plenty of Olivia story there, but then I was always in it for her so I ignored plot to the contrary.

You're right. I spoke hastily, sorry.

I really loved the Jacksonville story, which is one of the two mini-arcs that really connected with me emotionally vis a vis Olivia (the other one being the AltLivia rivalry). I was sad that we lost both of those rich stories with the S4 jump in timeline (the former moreso than the latter--I was also happy to see AltLivia as an ally), but what are you going to do?

I really enjoyed S5, and I did find the scene with Olivia and Peter in which he removes his chip to be extremely touching.
