it's actually one of the most commonly associated flowers with funerals. it represents the soul departed, innocence, and sympathy. :)

haha yeah, it seems an international trend too (they actually put lilies on alfons' grave in the film, which was part of what inspired this fic because i rewatched it recently), but things like that can always vary per family, regions, and customs. the scent was always pretty powerful to me at the funerals i've been to, as well.
